At the time of this portrait, 46 year old Maciani Vakena was living with her family in a tent in the Pont-Rouge Displaced Persons Camp outside near Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Maciani lost her husband, daughter and brother due to the January 12th, 2010 earthquake.
This series of seven large portraits of Haitian earthquake survivors are based off the work of award-winning photographer Q. Sakamaki. In 2010 Q. and I collaborated on an exhibit and auction benefitting rebuilding efforts in Haiti.
